LOST YEARS RUM
We discovered the extremely worthy Lost Years Rum, who not only produce a delectable range of rums but also partner with the charity SEE Turtles in furthering their aim of saving at least a million baby sea turtles over the next five years. They use wonderful cask aged rums from legendary distilleries in Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica to which they add a special x factor – a ‘punch’ of authentic unaged Rhum Agricole from Guadeloupe. We tried their Silver Spiced Coconut Sour – a gorgeous drink which combines fresh citrus flavours with their Silver Spiced Rum and toasted coconut. ALDWICK ESTATE
Another great discovery, small but impressive Aldwick Estate produce award winning wines from their two vineyards in Somerset. The Estate has been the family home for five generations and its successful diversification into wine production began in 2013. We tried the Aldwick Classic Cuvee – a remarkably distinctive English sparkling wine – finely balanced flavours, light and refreshing.

SPIRIT OF BIRMINGHAM
We were pleased to meet with one of the founding partners of Spirit of Birmingham – this enterprising couple have created Birmingham’s first grain to glass distillery, putting Birmingham firmly on the distilling map. We tried their English Pot still Vodka – unlike other vodkas commonly made from a single ingredient, Spirit of Birmingham Pot still Vodka is produced from the same mash bill (of English heritage grain) as their signature beer and maturing whiskey – five grains, each chosen for their unique flavour profiles give this vodka a delicious spice, natural sweetness and a rich, velvety mouth feel. As they say, whoever said vodka has no flavour is wrong – this is a vodka like no other and very impressive.

It was great to reconnect with Foxdenton – a company synonymous with the best in hand crafted liqueurs and fine spirits. Having mastered their distilling skills over four generations, Foxdenton’s mission and the key to its continuing success lies in its ability to find and support farms that grow great varieties, sharing its passion for quality. We tried the two new, limited edition products – Gooseberry Fool Gin Liqueur and Eton Mess Liqueur – both absolutely delicious and perfect for summer.
